5 Things That Made Me Smile This Week #1

I’ve decided to spend some time each week reflecting on events that I believe added to my life, left an impact on my heart, and ultimately made me smile. A crucial part of maintaining good mental, physical, and spiritual health is having the ability to acknowledge our blessings as well as keeping the positivity going, so perhaps you’ll be motivated to take a moment and do the same! I’m sure there are numerous things that happened to you this week that were impactful–acknowledge them!

A Listening Ear

I’m well aware that they were simply doing their jobs, but the nurses and doctors at the New York Presbyterian Hospital truly made me feel special throughout my hospitalization. These men and women didn’t treat me like another body to draw blood from, feed, and clean up after. They did their job with love! I feel so blessed to have had the opportunity to meet so many beautiful souls. It really goes to show the impact that you can leave on someone’s heart when you choose to do whatever it is that you do with love, kindness, and a pure heart.

Quality Time

For the first time in a while, I had the opportunity to spend quality time with those that are dear to me. Usually when watching a movie, I’m so engulfed in my phone and preoccupied with work-related issues that I forget to live in the moment! Anyone who knows me, knows how much a adore Disney movies–I actually have a collection (don’t judge)! I absolutely loved having my brothers over this weekend to watch Moana! Not only was the movie absolutely amazing (check it out!), but it felt so good to take a moment, revert back to childhood, and enjoy spending time watching an uplifting family film. Why not try it out this week?! On an early evening, snuggle up on the couch with a hot cup of tea (or glass of wine), the kids, hubby, or even alone to enjoy a fun family film that is bound to make a great end to your day!

Steroids

I can’t lie…the high dosage of steroids that my doctors prescribed during my recovery has really made an impact on my days. I wake up in less pain, I have energy for longer periods of time, and I’m on cloud nine for the majority of the day! I know, I know–this is temporary. But can’t I bask in the bliss and comfort momentarily? I’ll begin to taper my dosage this week, but in the mean time, I’m going to milk it!

Casper

My little peanut was neutered this week and has clearly been uncomfortable walking around with his 12 inch cone. While I hate to witness his frustration when he is unable to reach his favorite 8 ball toy, I have been so inspired by him! In the midst of his discomfort, he manages to maintain the same loving, energetic, and happy spirit that he usually has. Without words, I’m reminded that joy can be found in the most uncomfortable and undesirable moments of life.

A Resolution for Women

This happens to be one of my current reads. I actually look forward to hopping into bed in the evenings and spending time interactively reading. This book challenges me to reflect on my presence as a woman of faith in today’s society and ways to grow in His truth. The current topic of conversation is contentment. As a single (non-married) hardworking young woman living in Brooklyn, NY with dreams and aspirations of her own, sometimes it is difficult to enjoy your current season. Following this read, I am reminded that I am in this season of life because He wants me to be here and everything works for good to those who wait. It will all come in His time.
