As I continue to get back into the groove of everyday life, I find myself again reevaluating the relationships that I have and the kind of energy that I want to be exposed to on a daily basis. I can imagine that it isn’t just me that feels this way every now and then…and after investing so much time into a relationship–whether it’s with a spouse, family member, or friend, it’s disheartening to think that it ultimately may not have been what you thought. It definitely isn’t something easy to do, but I truly believe that removing negative energy and relationships from your life is one of the crucial ways to promote healthy living. I’ve even stopped talking to family members because of this–people focusing on the negative aspects of every situation. It’ll be the first time they lay eyes on you in years and the first words that escape their lips spit fire and create pain–“You lost so much weight…you skinny eh!” or “Gal… you get fat!” or “Did you hear about (so and so)” or whatever other nonsense they try to share. I personally, refuse to engage any longer.
More recently, I’ve been struggling with a long term friendship that I believed to be genuine, but I now find myself questioning. It’s hard to admit as an adult that another person can create pain by disappointing you, but I am slowly learning that this is a natural aspect of growth and self-development. Disappointments are inevitable, but how you respond to them is what’s important! I’m choosing to focus on the positive relationships in my life and invest in those who fight to support and invest in me!
