When faced with challenging situations, how many of us have a tendency to quickly become overwhelmed and focus on how impossible things appear to be? *Clears throat—guilty! And this isn’t only true for major life situations. How about the small things? Like last night’s dinner perhaps…“Why is this jar impossible to open?! Mom! Help!” After a single attempt, I am filled with frustration because the jar fails to open when I want it to and immediately call for someone nearby to save me. I swear this happens every time! Unfortunately this time, no one was home, so I was forced to keep working at that jar until it finally budged. This got me thinking…we do similar things in big situations as well. After single attempts to accomplish a goal, if things fail to work out when or how we want them to, we call for rescue. In some cases we give up entirely.
While I may slip up every now and then, I am a firm believer in “speaking life” into my situations. Is anyone else going through a rough patch right now, where every situation seems to have a negative side to it and things aren’t ever in your favor…or is it just me? Patches when the doctor only seems to be calling with bad news and never good? When all of the bills are due but you have no idea how they’re going to get paid? Or even when you’re so caught up in a downward spiral of negative emotions that you feel trapped and entirely unable to escape? I have to be speaking to someone! Be encouraged! These moments are when we need to “speak life” over our situations. Believe and declare that you and your doctor will continue to work together to find a solution and you will be receiving a clean bill of health. Believe and declare that all of your needs will be provided and your worry will fade. Find joy in the smallest of things by acknowledging your many blessings–you woke up this morning, right?! It’ll all be alright!
Don’t be an expert in allowing your emotions to take control…stand firm, and declare with your mouth, all of the things that you need right now. “Ask and it will be given to you!” -Matthew 7:7 How will we receive if we never use our tongues and speak?
